Hydrangea Festival

The fierce temple guardian is tempered by these lovely flowers!

Like so many others, the Japanese are always looking for a reason to celebrate! The flowering of different plants is reason enough! There is the hydrangea festival and the iris festival to say nothing of the partying that accompanies the spring plum and cherry blossoms. So off we went to a temple famous for it's hydrangeas! Yes, they were everywhere and so huge and beautiful. The plants certainly love the heat and humidity here!

The hollyhocks were taller than me!

Some beautiful lilies on the grounds as well.

Fellow with his trained monkey entertained the crowds!

Lest anyone think that we are completely on holiday, Elder Brown deals with numerous missionary issues and reassures many young people and Mission Presidents that they will be just fine! Some of those medical problems have been serious and we have seen miracles happen! The work is progressing here and the Japanese and Korean people are so faithful. Our work in the temple has been a joy and a spiritual feast. Our associations are sweet and the visits we make to the missions are remarkable experiences. Mission Presidents and their wives are given rare gifts and abilities and their callings are incredibly complex and demanding. Those who have been called to a lifetime of service are dedicated and wise people and work so hard with no complaint. The examples of righteous living around us are many and the missionaries are full of faith and hope in their work. At our one year mark we can already say that this has been an amazing and blessed experience! We recommend it to all!!!

Your pictures continue to be amazingly beautiful and we appreciate them. We understand what you mean when you show us these wonderful pictures and then have to explain that there is missionary work going on as well. We also have the same problem, our work isn't something that can be pictured often, but the work is so worth it and needed. We wish more couples would get the spirit and be willing to serve. The blessings are there for those who are willing. Love your blog. I think our mission blog is finished and we leave in a week.

I KNOW you guys are busy with work, otherwise I wouldn't know who you were anymore! Sometimes it just tires me out watching you two! I'll bet the work is blooming right along with those flowers with your green thumb. Beautiful pictures. We used one of the cards you gave us as in a wedding gift.

I am always checkin up on you even thought you don't know it! Love your blog! I am glad you are artsy! The flower pictures were beautiful! We went to Hawaii last month and I took lots of flower pictures! They are sooooo beautiful and make the cement behind it look really good! Enjoy all your days there! Wish I could come pick you up!

I'm so jealous! Hydrangeas are my favorite! I've planted trees recently hoping I may someday have enough shade to grow one, or 20! :) Love your pictures! Miss you!

Dolye & Jeanna Thanks so much for your blog. It has been great seeing your work and the native land. We miss the mission field but are keeping busy with grandchildren. Erika just had #3 and baby girl mane Evangeline; both Chrissy and Alisha are pregnant both with baby girls. This will bring our total to 12 grandaugthers. How lucky can you get a full team. We love and appreciate you both and the work you do. Sharon and I have just been called as Temple workers at the Jordan River Temple. We will serve 2 nights a week, new adventure. Thanks again

Wow - what a beautiful country! I'm all for celebrating blooming things :) It's always good to see picture proof that you are still alive and well and looking like yourself. Did dad recover from his "leprosy"? Love you guys!
