The Beautiful Island of Hokkaido

This past week we were able to travel to the lovely Hokkaido, the northern most island in the Japanese kingdom! Not only was it cooler than Tokyo, but the beauty of the mountains, fields, farms, streams and flowers were truly refreshing. We spent five days with President and Sister Daniels of the Sapporo Mission. We learned many new things from them and so enjoyed their company, home and missionaries! Apparently Hokkaido is best enjoyed in the summer as they get several feet of snow in the winter. These Mission Presidents and their wives are a breed apart as they seamlessly and effectively instruct, counsel and love their missionaries! What an inspiration!

Obihiro Zone. A friendly game of football after the conference

The park at Obihiro boasts the longest continuous bench at 440 meters!
(although rumor has it that a longer one exists somewhere!)

Lovely rose garden in Sapporo

PDay at the park...hot dogs from Costco and sunburns!!

This entire area for several square kilometers, has been planted with a wide variety of beautiful flowers. Lavender is in the foreground, with Marigolds, Saliva and Poppies behind.
Lobelia field with a very western looking barn in the background! Much of the architecture on Hokkaido reminded us of the midwest, not Japan!

This field of Lavender smelled so good! Notice the sod roof is growing it's own greenery.

Lupine and Poppies were mixed with wildflowers.

Lunchtime in Muroran Zone.

Browns and Meads at the bell above the lighthouse at Globe Point.

Globe Point Lighthouse and the beautiful blue Pacific. Did you see us waving at you in the States?

Island map. Globe Point is the rocky outcrop in the center..

Your beautiful and informative blogs would make any senior couple want to serve a mission and preferably in Japan! What a marvelous experience you are having. I love to see where you are and what you are doing. Different from our activities in Africa, and that makes it all the more interesting. Keep posting! Elder and Sister Wells, Johannesburg
